Chapter 101: Which Room? VOLUME 3: RANSOMING REDEMPTION Maggie Flynn smiled to herself as she watched the falling snow through the large bay window of the Red Lion Inn. "This is gonna be good," he'd said. While she waited at their table, Bobby had gone to check them in for their overnight stay.

His eyes shone crimson in the dim light. “I was wondering when the tribe would remember its own history.” I was now on my guard, “Who are you?” He smirked, “You may call me what your ancestors did.” Then, he finally stepped fully into the glow. “The Remnant.” Jessica and I were ready for a battle, but he only said, “Beware! If Sheila regains her memories, she will have to be sacrificed to restart the seal!”

Elin Crosses the Threshold At twilight, Elin stood at the Spiral’s outermost ring the once hallowed boundary. She crossed it. With her came dozens of her followers, dressed not in Hollow black or Spiral gold, but in new robes dyed the gray of ash and first soil. They called themselves Remnants. “We are not here to fight,” Elin said, her voice carrying through the Grove. “We are here to witness. To stand where the end meets the origin.” She bowed to me. “I no longer claim the Grove. But I claim my place in what becomes of it.” I didn’t know if that was a surrender or a threat.

I started to talk when the vents start seeping out mist. “It’s wolfsbane Wyatt! We’re at the French clothing store on human territory, about 30 minutes out, Amelia is outside, we’re trapped in the store, nobody else is in here!” Jade yelled as I’m in shock, I start choking on the mist, covering my mouth—trying to breath. “Wyatt, I love you!” I yell out into the phone. “I’ll be right there Remi! Try to hold on, I love you!” He growls, I hear him shifting through his clothes, running in wolf form he’ll get here faster.

A presence stirred on it. A being with no face, only a hollow where a mouth should be. But when it moved, it spoke directly to her thoughts. “You were not meant to return here, Seedbearer.” Emily fell to her knees. “Who—what are you?” she managed to whisper. “I am the Remnant. That which was left behind when the Tree fell… when the Sky fled… when Varethkaal was first named.” She remembered that name. Varethkaal. The hunger given shape. The godling of void. The Gamma looked slightly more relaxed, but Dane was enjoying this dance and wanted to string Sam along slowly. “You were in the warrior army, weren’t you, Gamma? You ever hear of this ‘RW’ thing?” There was that look again, thought Dane. “Well, no… I mean… it’s been a long time since I was a warrior,” answered Sam, his confidence slipping.
