Option 2: Rhys decides he isn't going down without a fight. He finds a way to balance the ledger and repay Nathaniel so they can both fight for Betty on an even playing field. This will give us an epic "Gentlemen's War." (Keep in mind, this will make the book a bit longer, but the angst and the tension will be off the charts! 🔥)

“I’ve attended every year for the past three years, and I don’t intend to stop now.” Rhys’s gray eyes flickered. He was a little younger than Booth—maybe early thirties, with thick black hair, eyes the color of gunmetal, and a broad, muscled frame that towered over Bridget’s leggy grace, even when she wore heels. Dark stubble shadowed his chin, and a small, jagged scar slashed across his left eyebrow. Without the scar, he would’ve been disconcertingly gorgeous; with it, he was still disconcertingly gorgeous, but also dangerous. More menacing.

Rhys was still away on his trip, so I couldn’t even talk to him. I sighed and flopped down on my bed, staring at the ceiling for a while before reaching for one of the books Rhys brought me when I was recovering from the wolfsbane poisoning. It was a romance novel, the kind with a brooding, possessive male lead who always seemed to know exactly what to say to make the heroine blush. As I read, I couldn’t help but think of Kai. It was weird, but the male lead reminded me of him so much. The way he was cold and distant at first, but secretly cared more than he let on. The way his eyes always seemed to see right through the heroine, just like Kai’s silver eyes did to me.

“Did it?” I hated how my breath hitched. Hated how right he was. Before I could answer, another voice cut through the night — calmer, deeper, more controlled. “Starting the game without me again, brother?” Rhys stepped out of the shadows. Identical in every physical way, but the energy was different. Where Rylan burned hot and reckless, Rhys watched everything with cold, calculated hunger. His eyes dragged over me slowly, possessively, like he was already planning how to break me.
