It was a sound of emptiness, of hunger.
Knock.
The thought was a lightning strike in Ron’s mind. Moe said to knock.
But he didn’t. He couldn’t. This was his brother. His little brother. This was Robbie, who was afraid of the dark, who loved chocolate chip cookies, who had once cried when their goldfish died. This wasn’t one of them. Not yet.
“Ron…” Kira’s voice was a warning note, thin with fear.
Rob’s eyes snapped open.
The warm, familiar brown was gone, clouded over with a milky, cataract film. There was no recognition, no thought, only a primal, fixated intensity. They were locked on Ron’s face.
