"How many tattoos do I have in total?" "Four." And he goes on to explain what they are. “The Crow tattoo on the back of your left shoulder, the tribal tattoo on your spine, the lotus flower on the back of your neck, and my mark, right here.” He gently caressed his mark on my left collarbone, and immediately, I felt the pull and comfort towards him. I nodded. “Okay, you're Ryan, okay.” He glared at me and I laughed. “Say my name again.” “Ryan.” I scoffed.

Typical Roman—always ready to protect, always checking on everyone else. But my eyes had already caught something else. On his bare chest, above his heart, from side to side, was a tattoo. Bold, elegant script in black ink that I hadn’t seen before. I squinted, stepping closer without thinking. “Hold on… Roman, is that a tattoo?” He glanced down at himself and let out a deep, hearty laugh that filled the quiet nursery. Andrea didn’t even flinch; she just kept drinking peacefully. “Wait—that’s Savannah’s name,” I said, genuinely stunned. My mouth fell open. “What? I never would have pegged you for the tattoo type. You don’t even look like someone who would—”

Gianna gazed down at her wrist, looking at the small tattoo she got in her teenage years. It was a dandelion, some of the seeds scattered as if blown by the wind, forming a small musical note. Nothing about the drawing was unique, as surely, a lot of women already had the same tattoo as hers now. She had been thinking about erasing it many times over but decided not to. The black ink looked good in her milky skin, but she would rather it stayed hidden.

Her eyes were blue colored and she had full kissable lips she painted over with some clear lip gloss. She had a large watercolor tattoo of a Phoenix on her left side in red orange and many other colors. On her thigh was a watercolor tattoo of a wolf howling to the moon. What bothered her the most was the three most personal tattoos she had. One was on her right forearm it was a watercolor tattoo of a Celtic Love knot the read “Love is real”, Rhys has the same one that read “Real is Love”. Another one was the was of their fingerprints that came together and formed the shape of an heart, Rhys also had the same thing. And the last was the obvious one, It was and eternal love tattoo right above

Her eyes swept over him slowly. From his lean, muscular torso, down the ridges of his abdomen, and across his inked chest…and that was when she saw it. A tattoo. One she hadn't noticed until now. It started from beneath his left collarbone, curling like smoke across his pec, down his ribs, wrapping over his left shoulder and down the length of his arm. It wasn’t just art..it was storytelling ink, a tapestry of symbols and sharp lines. A Roman centurion stood at the heart of it, helmet tilted upward with a stare to the heavens. Surrounding him, a serpent curled and bled into feathers, and beneath it, Latin script ran along the bottom edge like scripture.

A black chain was also looped three times around her right wrist from which a silver crescent moon pendant had the Roman numeral thirteen – XIII engraved on it. Everyone in the recreation room fell silent as the doors swung open, and a teen about eighteen or nineteen entered, with a solemn look on his face. His hair fell down around his face perfectly, just reaching the nape of his neck, and he was dressed in a white long-sleeved shirt with a black short-sleeved shirt worn over it, and black jeans with a pair of black Nike shoes on his feet. A black choker with a silver dagger-like pendant hung from around his neck. And a black butterfly tattoo appeared just above his collarbone on the left

“Saturday?” The doctor made a hmm noise, apparently not impressed with this man helping me. No surprise. Doctors were no fun. “How many fingers amI holding up?” Ronan translated. I stared at his other hand resting on his knee, at the tattoos on his fingers in between the first and second knuckles. One was a cross, another a raven. The third, a king of hearts playing card. Ink and déjà vu. I didn’t know what was wrong with me, but I couldn’t stop myself from touching him, from drawing an index finger down the tattooed raven. The whispered words were pushed from my depths by an irresistible force.

Em looked at Mickey as she spoke. “Helll to the yeahhh!” Mickey shouted. She jumped out the of the car then turned and looked at the girls. “Y’all comin or what?” An hour later the friends emerged from the tattoo place, Em sporting a bandage on her rib cage right under her previous tattoo, and another one on her wrist… which matched the ones on her three best friends. They’d all decided to get matching ones. Nothing big.. just a little Roman number IV. Symbolizing the four of them and how much they meant to each other. And then the one on Em’s rib cage, under her hummingbird which read: ‘Made to Endure’.
