I scanned the dark space, locating the rusted service door that led out into the alleyway. I reached for the metal handle. "I wouldn't open that," a quiet, gravelly voice echoed from the shadows. I froze, my hand hovering inches from the rusted steel. A tall, broad-shouldered figure detached himself from the darkness of a brick pillar. The unmistakable, heavy scent of sandalwood and rain washed over my sensory receptors. Rocco stepped into the dim light, his dark eyes locking onto my face. "Roman's men are currently securing that alleyway," Rocco stated smoothly. "If you open that door, they will load you into an SUV within ten seconds."

He picked me up and carried me out of this dark alley. My thoughts were hazy. His strong scent of sandalwood is the only thing that is keeping my mind calm. The people around this complex had moved out one by one, and there were only a few families left there. The sound of the high heeled shoes that came from the alley was sharp in the silence. Michael turned, and with the help of some dimmed lights from the entrance of the alley, he saw a slim figure appear in his sight. His eyes were tender, and he did not make a sound as he set his sights on a blurry figure. Christina was unaware of her surroundings and did not realize a man was standing there. In the dark, she quickly walked through the alley and went into her apartment.
