I nearly choked on my tea. "He’s just intense, Mom."
"Oh, wonderful," she said, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "Not another intense man. Is he richer than the last one?"
"Mom!"
"What? I’m an analyst. I’m gathering data."
"He’s my boss. That’s it."
"He has a name, doesn't he?"
"Voss."
The name hung in the air. For a split second, something shifted in her expression—a flicker of recognition, or perhaps a shadow of a memory. It was gone as quickly as it appeared.
