Nathan trembled again, more violently this time, and a muffled “please don’t—” slipped out, but Damian talked over it gently, not unkindly.
“I was the one who forced this marriage on you,” he said, the confession dragging slowly out of him, as if he’d never said the words aloud until now. “Forced the bond on you.”
Nathan’s fingers clenched at that—shame, panic, grief, all fighting to the surface—but Damian’s hand came up to the back of his neck, firm and careful, holding him there, grounding him.
