“I was worried that you’d run into danger if I left you alone here. What do I find instead? You’re flirting around!” It was Caleb. His first words might have sounded like concern. But what danger could I possibly face on campus? Moreover, David was also my roommate. How could this possibly be counted as flirting? “He’s domineering and controlling!” I thought bitterly. David gave Caleb a ghost of a smile as he looked at him. Their eyes met for a few seconds before David turned to me. “Keep the ointment with you. Remember to apply it a few more times.” I kept quiet. I was worried that Caleb would think up another punishment for me.

Clutching her phone, she burst into tears and ran into the bathroom. From outside, I could vaguely hear her making a complaint call. Her voice was nothing like usual—pinched and cloying, unpleasant to listen to. Grinding her teeth, Joey dropped back into her chair. The other roommate, Carmen Radler, asked worriedly, "She isn't really dating Nick, is she? We really can't afford to offend someone like him." Joey snorted. "So what if she is? We're in the right—what's there to be afraid of? Does he really think he can bend the law? We got into this university on our own merit!"

He nodded as he checked it out. “This is nice. Way better than the tiny spots I’ve been looking at. Rent split sounds fair too.” He turned to her. “You sure you’re cool with a guy roommate? I know your ad said female preferred.” Mia shrugged. “I was hoping for a girl, but you seem normal. And I need someone now. If you’re good with the rules…no bringing random people over without asking, keep the common areas clean…we can try it.” Jamal grinned. “Deal. When can I move in?”

She hoped Beth was having a nice summer. “My roommate.” “You have a roommate?” She couldn’t figure out why he looked so astonished. “Why wouldn’t I?” He shrugged. “Too proud to split the rent.” She scowled at him. He scratched behind his ear. “Forget I said that.” “I’m not too proud to split the rent. Splitting the rent is fine.”

He said in a rush not thinking clearly. Wait. What?? We just met after a long time. This was kinda weird to suggest. "Um..what?" I asked bewildered almost spitting out my food. "Yeah... We can be like roommates. I mean I am having a hard time to get a good roommate and by the looks of it you are having a hard time living in your apartment, so what the hell?" He seemed to be fascinated by that idea of his. "Oh, Come on! It's not like we're strangers. We know each other for year's now." He said looking at my confused face.

I had never met a more disrespectful person than the pair. I walked to my room in anger. I was going to kill Jen and Kari for this. How did I end up with such annoying and uncaring friends? Kari had left me and moved in to live with her new boyfriend Ron. Apparently, he was more important than our friendship. On the other hand, Jen had agreed to the proposal that Ron's cousin, Alec should be my new roommate. Then, I the foolish girl had agreed without even knowing what type of person Alec was.

He said, pulling me out of my thoughts. I shrugged, "And you are a lot sassier than your gender should be." To my annoyance, he just laughed, making him even more insufferable. “I like you already,” he said, then continued, “Go ahead. Make yourself at home. It’s our room now, after all.” Our room. The words felt like a slap to the face. I stared at him, trying to process what he’d just said. "Wait—you’re my roommate?" He raised an elegant brow. “That’s generally what it means when two people share a space.”
