The drill turns out to be easier to find than the key, and I take a box of various-sized bits just in case. She answers the door, still in her bobble hat and a bright red Christmas jumper that had been hidden behind the fence. I pointed to the kinda smaller reindeer hanging by himself. The older man working the booth handed him over with a kind smile as I held two stuffed animals in my arms.

Natalia was very quick to explain to me, and very enthusiastic. “Nurse Gina told me the story of Snow white and the seven dwarfs.” She pointed to the drawings she was coloring. “This is Scotty, Eddie and Billy, snow White's dwarf friends. They were protecting her against the evil queen…” she flipped the page and pointed to a woman with a crown on her head. “This is the evil queen. I'm going to color her black and red.”

“Have you gone mad? It’s night! And...” Judging by his face, some sort of thinking process was taking place beneath his golden curls. “How did you get here?” “I just came in.” “What about the guards? How did they let you in?” “They didn’t,” I said, shrugging. The dark snake coiled around my feet, snuggling up to me like a playful kitten, but Rudolph couldn’t see it. Was that strange? Not really. See, he had never truly been crowned. The babble in the temple doesn’t count. He wasn’t the king, just a usurper, and he couldn’t see much.

He snored like someone who had not rested for many days. The Adolf smiled when he saw him, he understood that Rudolph could be tired. “Rudolph” the old man tapped him gently. “Yes sir” he jumped up from the leather chair he was sitting on and sleeping at the same time. The old laughed hard, Rudolph acted strange. “Let us go, I am through with my meeting” the old man said calmly again, trying to stop himself from laughing. “Yes sir” he said and took the suit case from the old alpha. “Good bye sir” the receptionist smiled as the old man responded with a smile.

Rhea tripped into Theo while waving too enthusiastically. Chaos. Joyful, festive chaos. My home. I shoved the pup into Rowan’s arms. “Hold him. He is chewing everything I own.” Rowan hissed as the pup bit him through his glove. “Why is his jaw stronger than mine.” I did not answer. Because the king was staring at everything around him with wonder. The lights strung along the trees. The gingerbread wolves decorating the porch. The packhouse glowing with warmth. The glittering snowmen lined up like proud guardians.
