That request was for James almost impossible. He detested abusers. He had been a dark person, it was true, but he never crossed anyone. He remembered his bygone days and how common it was for men in his sphere to beat their partners. He remembered his sister in her youth, the victim of an abusive boyfriend. The memory, the situation, could never be repeated. She couldn't imagine what would have happened if Conell did worse to her. He could have sworn he would have ripped her head off himself.
