"That's an even harder question to answer." "Just answer her god damn question!" another shout. "Well... umm..." I knew I was stuttering but I couldn't help it, I was feeling increasingly nervous about what I had to say. Asher, who had been quiet the entire time, finally spoke. “If we can’t trust each other, we’ll fall,” he said, voice steady but laced with irritation. “We’re not just facing dead land. There have been sightings of creatures.” The room went still. Alpha Cassian’s jaw clenched. “What kind of creatures?” he asked, voice carefully. “Not wolves,” Asher said, eyes glowing faintly. “Something else. Something with wings.” A ripple of unease passed through the room, even the most hardened Alphas shifting in their seats.

"We've made progress." I raised an eyebrow, not liking the sound of that. "Progress? Tell me about it". He hesitated for a moment, then motioned for Clinton and me to sit. "Ok, then. These creatures... they're more dangerous than we realized." I crossed my arms, leaning back in my chair. "I thought we already knew that." The scientist swallowed hard, clearly uncomfortable. "Yes, but I've discovered something crucial. These creatures are like vampires... but not exactly. They share similar traits, but there's one big difference."

They think the creatures that entered our world back then formed the basis of the myths and legends that still fill humankind’s nightmares, which is why so many of the monsters that come through now are familiar to us. Tales of vampires, werewolves, dragons and trolls, to name just a few, may have been inspired by real-life creatures who came through one of those naturally occurring portals long ago.
