Chapter 3

Don rocked to and fro on a chair, his feet  criss-crossed on the desk in front of him. The cursor on the computer's monitor kept blinking in synchrony to the taps of his fingers on the chair's armrest. On the keyboard in front of the computer were sheets of paper stapled together with some prints on them. The prints were not easy to make out from afar save for a huge "F" written and encircled near the top right corner of the sheet that was on top. The phone rung and Don stretched out and grabbed the phone.

"Hello, Don speaking, who am I speaking to please?" He said, supporting the earpiece to his ear with his shoulder and began swinging around on the chair. It was one thing he subconsciously does every time even if his hands weren't busy. And he began doing that ever since he met Lisa. He was really late on their first date but Lisa came to pick him at his house. He was a call speaking, and Lisa was busy flashing smiles that clearly betrayed her attraction to him. He couldn't stand it anymore, he supported the phone with his shoulder and held and caressed Lisa's cheeks with affection. He had been doing so ever since.

Their union wasn't meant to be. It shouldn't have existed. He was always the type no one would want to be close to- he had no vibes, no humor, no attractive face, no abs, wide chest or big biceps, nor a height that someone as beautiful as Lisa would fall for. But somehow, she fell for something else--his heart.

When he first set his eyes on Lisa, she was in hurry on her way home with a bag of groceries in his hand. She was so beautiful, black and wore a smile that could tear a face off someone's head. Her concentration was somewhere else and she bumped into something he didn't see, tipped over, her groceries scattering everywhere on the street. He rushed to help her to her feet. She had a very bad bruise on her near her right brow.

"That hurts," she said, struggling to her feet.

"Yeah, it was a fatal fall." Don said, almost in a stummer. The trouser on her knee was dampened red with blood.

"May I attend to that?" He asked kneeling down, pulling up the trouser.

"Uhm, I'm okay." She said trying to protest but it was too late, he had already pulled up the trouser and to his utter shock, he found no cut or bruise. He was expecting a very bad wound.

He stared at the knee in disbelief, briefly and gently rubbing it before he stood. When he stood, the bruise on her face was also gone. He was too confounded to give it a thought or even ask about it. He just help gather the scattered groceries back to the bag and handed it to her.

"I'm Don, and you are..."He stretched his hand.

" Lisa, I'm Lisa."

"You're welcome." He said, and turned to leave. He had never put up a conversation that long. Also, he never maintained any relationship, not even a meet-up because he knew too well he would end up being boring and spoil everything.

All that was before she got a job, and he hadn't known her well either, nor that he had a boyfriend already. But now she was a waitress in one of the fastest-growing restaurants in town and they were married.

"Mr. Don, I hope you have received the reports of your son's academic performance already. The caller on the other side said and added," I am The Secretary to your son's school.

"Yes I have, is anything wrong?" Don asked.

"Yes, I'm afraid that we can't accept him as a student in this school any more."
