“You have nothing,” the dragonkin said quietly, her voice like velvet over broken glass. “No allies. No strength. You’re a mistake he’s too proud to undo.”
Sera stepped forward again. Her hands were trembling. Her jaw clenched tight. She could feel it now—something inside her unfurling, coiling, demanding to be seen.
“You don’t get to decide what survives,” she snapped.
Her voice cracked—and smoke poured from her mouth.
It wasn’t fire. Not yet. But it was close. A pale, silvery cloud that coiled between her lips like breath in frost, rising in slow tendrils that shimmered with heat. It danced like a living thing, glowing faintly at the edges, edged with gold.
