Jane With a fist clutching at my heart over my chest, I curl deeper into myself as my body jerks and spasms. The rejection had manifested into something that feels like a demonic hand which has somehow slid into into mouth and through my throat- completely blocking my airways, before grabbing my beating heart in a tight grip, ruthlessly and mercilessly squeezing the delicate organ.

Sorry, Perc, I promise I’m trying. “Why don’t you go play with the others now. I can see Nova waving at you to come over.” I told him. “Okay.” He let his shadow swallow up the book. He liked keeping things in the shadow realm, just like me. We often hang out in there together. He likes watching others, and observing them through their shadow doors, just like I did. “They are all getting so big!” Ember’s voice snapped my attention. “They really are.” I sighed. “You okay?” She sensed my sadness.

Nate whispered in my ear looking down at our children. "I love you Nate Viseron." I replied. Ember immediately starts speaking Japanese as she seemed to understand these men better than me. *Ember* I stop tickling Damian as the shadows around us start to move. My body tenses up as I see katanas in their hands. Binx darts behind me. "Nope nope nope I ain't attacking them. I'm too young to die!" "I feel the love." I whisper.

It looked like hope amidst the darkness that surrounds it. She shivered when the cold breeze assaulted her skin. Ember had developed this kind of habit to go out every night, when everyone was fast asleep and she would watch the darkness of the night before her. It made her feel secure and calm. And she knew she was getting weirder as her tummy got larger, and she thought it was her child who played the role of her change.

Ice asks. “A witch I met in New Orleans,” Bo replies with a smile. Seems like more than a friend to me. “She’ll meet you at the airport when you land in Portland. From there, it’s about a six and a half hour drive to Crescent Shadow territory.” I nod my head. Ice sees my face and turns to them. “Can we go now?” She asks. “Of course,” Gray nods his head. “Get some sleep. Tomorrow will be a long day, you’ll need your rest.”

EMBER Ember’s breath came in sharp, uneven bursts as heat flooded through her skin, making the tangled sheets around her feel suffocatingly tight against her flushed body. The loft lay shrouded in darkness, save for the neon glow that bled through the rain-streaked windows, casting erratic shadows across the walls. Outside, the city thrummed with its restless insomnia, the buzz of distant signs, the hiss of traffic slicing through wet streets, and faint music leaking from some apartment three floors below, yet none of it pierced the intimate bubble enveloping her. In that moment, all that existed was him: Ghost, his body hovering over hers like a broad, solid wall of quiet strength, pressing

"I hid my daughter in the silence of the Gray, and I stayed in the shadows of the Market to watch over every seedling that grew from his poisoned garden. Including you, little bird." The shadow girl,Anna’s long-lost aunt, the hidden sister of her mother,stepped closer. She pointed to the silver necklace in Anna’s hand. Through the tether of their shared blood, Anna saw a sudden, sharp vision. The Anchor wasn't in a box. It wasn't in a grave.

The Ember Guard. Riven drew his daggers. “Well. Guess we didn’t need sleep anyway.” Silas moved in front of me, drawing symbols in the air with wards that glowed faintly gold. Ashen’s eyes flashed white, his blades ready. Kyren didn’t look back at me, but I felt him through the tether and the storm gathering under his skin, restrained only by sheer will. When the first of the Ember Guard stepped forward, their voice was hollow and cold. “Shadowborn,” it said. “You were forbidden to return.”
