groaned Lycus Lewis in his mind. Albus looked around the room and did not find the scepter containing The Heart of Magic. Albus's heart pounded. He approached Lycus Lewis, who was in a state of death. Albus tore off Lycus Lewis's shirt. He could see that tendrils of black energy were almost filling Lycus Lewis's chest. Once his chest was perfectly black, his heart would explode and shatter. Lycus Lewis was dying.

He then whispers the spell that draws the azure-colored hue of light and traces the symbols and lines of the pentagram. Through that spell, the little doll’s mind is opened, feeds with the truth and nothing but the dread of life and darkness that each human hold within their heart. “Greed, Pride, Lust, Envy, Glutton, Wrath and Sloth.”

He pulls it free. The moment Lucian unrolls it, his blood goes cold. It's a diagram of a sigil. Large, detailed, drawn with precise lines. The twin-moon mark sits at the center, but surrounded by other symbols. Runes in languages Lucian doesn't recognize. Geometric patterns that seem to move in the torchlight. But what freezes Lucian in place is the note written beneath the diagram in red ink. "The Mark of the First Heir. Appears on the body during awakening trials. Signifies the carrier is descended from the original Lycan-Shadow union. Only one per generation. Location of mark indicates nature of power."
