Lyra handed her a coat, her words too soft for me to hear, but the way Sofia’s shoulders relaxed told me everything I needed to know.
They were safe. For now.
I stepped into the clearing, drawing their attention. Sofia stiffened at first, her blue eyes widening when she saw me, but then her expression softened.
“Alaric,” she said, her voice tentative but steady.
“You did well,” I said, nodding toward the spot where she’d shifted.
She looked down, a faint blush coloring her cheeks. “I’m trying.”
“And you’re succeeding,” I said, stepping closer.
Lyra crossed her arms, her sharp gaze flicking between us. “You didn’t come out here just to watch us practice, did you?”
