Let the World Burn Without Me
He opened his mouth like he had more to say, but only two words came out.
"Don't worry."
Light broke across the sky. My form dissolved into it, pulled into the warped horizon.
When I opened my eyes again, I was back in the real world.
Here, I had no parents, no family. I was alone.
But for the first time in a long while, I felt safe.
The system didn't appear again. Days slipped by until, one night, I had a dream.
The world I remembered had lost all its color. Ruined walls and collapsed buildings stretched as far as I could see, with bodies scattered everywhere.
