His Untold Lies
I leaned my head back against the curved rim of the tub, letting my eyes close as the quiet of the room enveloped me.
My breathing slowed. The rhythmic, muffled sound of the water jets pulsing against the tub became a dull drone, broken only by the faint, occasional snap of a bubble bursting near my ear. In the deep quiet, a low, melodic strain of music began to drift through the air. It sounded like an old acoustic instrumental, soft and distant. I kept my eyes closed, letting the melody wash over me, assuming my exhausted brain was simply fabricating the sound from the rhythm of the pipes. It felt distant, like an echo of something ancient and peaceful.
