“Oh, my god. You did something scandalous, didn’t you?” Scott laughs, shaking his head. “Relax, drama queen. I had a couple of drinks at the hotel bar, ate way too much room service on Damien’s tab, and went to bed early.” McKenzy huffs in disappointment. “Well, that’s boring.” Scott grins wider. “But the game was amazing. Best one I’ve ever been to.” She turns to Tomas, who has been smiling quietly through the exchange. “What about you, professor? Anything scandalous?”

There are tall ceilings with gleaming opal floors, chandeliers, and winding stairs that lead up to the second level. “Maleah!” A familiar male voice calls out from another room. Gazing back, a smile spreads across my lips when I see who it is. Scotty bounds in my direction, his scruffy red beard and long red hair flailing around him. I grunt when he pulls me into his tight embrace and twirls me around the room. Scotty is a bear of a man with brawny arms and legs. They call him Scotty because of his thick Scottish brogue. His real name is Malcolm Mc Callum. He reminds me of a Highland chief from one of those historical shows you see on PBS. “Scotty! Oh my gosh! What are you doing here?”

"You have to let him tell you who sent you before you off him," Dad reminded me. "You can decide to make him die a painful or painless death." "Of course," I nodded. "You don't have to tell me." "His name is Darwin Scott. He lives in a rundown motel in Blackthorn Hollow, a haven for drug lords and criminals. You have to take at least ten bodyguards with you," Dad instructed.

Scott said to him. "Here, a mask" Ronnie said eyeing Martin who kept laughing as he watched a video of Kevin hart and tiffany heard it on TV. "I'm going alone because I don't want you both hands to be soaked in blood," Scott said. "Oh please, cut the crap, when has my hands never been in blood?" Martin scoffed and continued watching his video. "At least not his, this is my fight," Scott said strapping the long gun around his back. He looked like one in the army as he walked until he was out of sight.

Mortified that I have been eye fucking him without even being discreet. “I’m sorry. Yes please get dressed. There’s a coffee shop only a few minutes' walk from here. We can get caffeinated and I can show you the station” I reply, not really knowing what else to say. We walk for ten minutes in silence, stopping at the cafe for coffee, I ask him to wait a moment while I run back in to order a breakfast roll and coffee when I spot Scott setting up in his spot. Scott’s a homeless man, he had been in the army and was unable to adapt to civilian life. He’s chosen life on the streets. He’s a really nice guy, I’ve often sat and had a coffee with him and always make sure to order extra.

I'd been in the pack's territory for a few days now and they were still giving me the cold shoulder except for Scott. He was standing at the back of his cabin near a handmade wooden chopping board with the stone oven lit. He had a pile of cooked meat stacked on the board in front of him, shredding it apart with a fork and knife. "Hi," I said, folding my hands behind my back as I neared him. Scott was as tall as Hunt, with dark blonde hair and broad shoulders, looking like one of those men that lived in the mountains—which ironically he did—in his plaid shirt with those mesmerising lake blue eyes.

I complain and Scott rubs his hands up and down my shoulders. "You just got here that's why you're cold. If you didn't know, some drinks actually keep one warm" "Beer?" I say and he nods and then had that how did you know face. " Mt dad was a drunkard remember?" I shrug and he looks away. "Plus, they smoke pot" Scott adds and I cringe. "That's horrible" "To you" I gape at Scott. "You smoke pot?"

“I’m not small.” “I know,” he said. “They don’t.” A knock hit Scott’s window. All four of them froze. Scott opened the door and stepped out. Outside stood Malcolm Price. Suit. Smile. Calm eyes. Like he had walked there to see if they would break. Freeda opened her door before Winnie could stop her. “Freeda,” Winnie hissed. Freeda stepped out. “I’m done being pushed around.” Scott moved between her and Malcolm without touching either of them.

She took a big bite and strode the father and son. Ashley, Jaxon, and Scottie spent their lunch in the restaurant within the amusement park. Scottie enjoyed the foods shaped in cartoon characters, making their lunch longer than usual. From roller coaster to the carrousel then to the mini museum of fossils, Scottie was the center of the couple’s attention.
