The walls were still bare, but there was a framed print of a wolf howling at the moon above the headboard, and the bed was already scattered with pillows shaped like stars and one slightly deformed stuffed rocket ship. “You think about how you want to decorate the rest of it?” I asked, walking in and sitting beside him. Aiden nodded sleepily. “Yeah. I want space stuff.” “Space stuff, huh?” “Mmhm.” He blinked slowly. “Stars. Planets. Constellations. Like a whole sky.” I smoothed a hand over his hair. “Why space?” His voice was small, barely above a whisper. “Because space is quiet. And far away. No one can come and get you in space.”

After eating, she allowed them to play video games before she sent them upstairs to their room. “Once upon a time, in a land where stars were made of candy and clouds tasted like cotton candy,” Tasha started reading to the boys later. “There lived a little firefly named Flicker. Flicker loved to play hide-and-seek with the moon, but he was always the first to be found. His light was so bright, it lit up the entire night sky!

Bing, bing, bing. The loud ringing of the table clock jolted Amara awake. With a tired sigh, she stretched her arms, slid out of bed, and knelt down to say her morning prayers. After finishing, she sat on the edge of the bed, her thoughts drifting to the twins. It had been one month since they left for the Alpha’s Academy, and she missed them terribly. The title on the book's jacket read: Howard's Amazing Adventure- and according to the back cover, the book told the story of an alien rabbit that had accidentally broken into the earth. Crystal picked up the book, turned a few pages randomly, and finally put it down indifferently.

From a few aisles away, she heard Adrian’s voice, soft and patient. “Nope, I think that one's about space. You want the one with the dragons, right?” Nora giggled. “Yeah! Dragons eat way more than astronauts.” “I’m not so sure about that,” he replied, pretending to be serious. “Astronauts like to snack a lot.” Amelia grinned to herself, hugging the journal to her chest. She found them sitting on the floor, Nora with her legs crossed and Adrian crouched beside her, holding up a book that had a dragon on the cover.
