His eyes were on Nicolais, like he was trying to figure out what he would do next.
I returned my gaze to Nicolais, and when our eyes connected, I smiled up at him, with what I hoped was a loving smile. No matter what, he returned the gesture, helping me calm back down a little.
“Tonight,” he began, “we celebrate another fruitful year, where the Mother has guided us, blessed this land, and we give our thanks to her.” His glowing eyes landed on me once again after scanning the crowd of guests. “I, especially, have much to be thankful for this time,” he continued, taking my hand, “the Mother has sent a beautiful woman my way, a woman who is brave, who is strong, who is lovable, a woman I admire
