She wasn't even sure what she was saying, what the slowed words coming out of her mouth even meant, but knew it was important to say them.
“Wolf & spider. Both symbols of ancient wisdom, both things that lurk in dark places and trap their prey...”
It occurred to Janice that wolves didn't really trap their prey, though they did often surround them. She had heard they sometimes used trickery though, and guessed not all traps needed nets, doors or sticky ropes to be considered traps.
“Go ahead,” the voice continued. “Unwrap your gift.”
Janice put her hand back on the cocoon. There was no movement within it, no warmth, no sign that the gift was anything alive, or at least anything that was still
