“And, whilst it’s destructive, I don’t see how it’s any use jamming the lock like that. I’m sure they have a locksmith they can call in, or something.”
“Not jamming the lock,” she replied working the gum methodically into the keyhole. “Locks work by tumbler. Keys work by pushing the tumblers in on their spring. The wrong key doesn’t press the tumblers in. Chewing gum fills the gaps and voila,” she gave it a turn and heard it click as it released. She swung the door open and stepped out. “Free.”
“Now what?” The woman asked. “Are you going to do that for every lock?”
