I'd walked across the room, met Aaron, and handed over the gifts we’d brought him. Our relationship didn’t thrive on communication, but he’d told me he was glad we’d made it and thanked me for the gifts. So yeah, maybe Astrid was right. He was my friend, but our friendship was different from others.

The one with his hair dyed red held out his hand to me for a handshake. "Scarlett." I took his hand briefly. "Hi! Felix is the name. And permit me to say, but you look gorgeous in person." Stacy teased, her voice filled with genuine affection for her friend. "Yeah, he's the best thing that has ever happened to me," Rita gushed, her voice filled with a dreamy inflection. "And his ahem... his... you know," she trailed off, blushing slightly. "Rita!" Stacy exclaimed, a mix of shock and amusement on her face, which only made Rita laugh harder.
