Selene’s POV I stood outside the grand oak door, my back pressed flat against the icy marble wall, the chill seeping through my clothing. My breath caught in my throat as I strained to eavesdrop on the conversation echoing inside. Each word they exchanged struck me like a bolt of electricity, igniting a tension deep in my bones. Ronan’s tone remained cool and unbothered, a calm facade that concealed the storm brewing beneath. Yet, there was something darker lingering in his words—a calculated plan slowly unfurling, one that hinted at his imminent departure… and the unsettling notion that he intended to take the shadows with him.

The lock clicked. Inside, rows of machines hummed. Cold air. The smell of metal and dust. Alex moved fast, plugging the flash drive into the main console. Code scrolled across the screen. “Thirty seconds,” he said. “Then we copy everything.” Seraph stood watch at the door. Her pulse was loud in her ears. She thought of the warehouse. The lock. But more importantly, now she knew that Ronan was aware of Atlas’s will. ‘God,’ she whispered, stopping her fingers from shaking as she sat in the back seat of the car that day, on the way to Ari’s ambassador event.

“Let me come in. It's for your good…” I didn't wait for him to say more than that, nor did I give him a reply. I placed my hands on the doorknob with a speed that wasn't from this world, rolled it, and opened the door widely. “Enter, enter…” I said, shutting the door back immediately. It was Ronan. “These rogues are already seven times stronger than they were before…” Ronan explained, shaking his head in surprise. “How on earth would Alpha Thane be part of them?”

Midnight Pack had taken in several already, quietly, carefully. Still, something about them felt… off. Ronan stood near the gates, speaking to the head guard in low tones. His posture was rigid, his eyes sharp as they swept over the group again and again, missing nothing. I could feel his tension from where I stood. He noticed me instantly. “Alara,” he called, turning sharply. “You shouldn’t be here.” “I felt something,” I replied, my voice calm despite the prickle racing up my spine. “Astrid did too.”

He hadn’t seen it coming. None of them had. Especially not Selene. Her knees looked weak. She grabbed the wooden rail near her, holding herself steady. Her eyes stayed on me, unblinking, glassy, shocked. One of the younger warriors near her muttered, “Who is that?” “He… he knows the Luna,” another whispered. The elder stepped back, clearly shaken. “You… you are…” I raised my head. “My name is Ronan Blackmane,” I said calmly, voice firm, tone deep. “I came here to prove that I am worth the title”
