Standing in the center of the room, right next to a heavy armored transport vehicle, was my father. Alpha Ronan looked broken. His wool coat was gone, his white shirt stained with grease and the blood of his own retreating enforcers. He was kneeling beside a large, black industrial crate, his fingers typing a series of master commands into the glowing yellow keypad of a military-grade demolition timer. Time Remaining: One Minute, Thirty Seconds. "Ronan!" Darius’s voice was a lethal roar that bounced off the high marble pillars, his hand instantly going to the silver-plated revolver at his hip.

The crystalline tip began to glow with the grey light of stasis. Liora couldn't wait any longer. She shoved against the grate. It didn't budge. It was bolted from the outside. "Ronan!" she cried. But Ronan was already moving. He braced his massive shoulders against the metal duct behind them, placed his feet against the grate, and pushed. His muscles corded. The metal of the grate groaned, then shrieked. With a final, tearing sound, the bolts gave way, and the grate flew out into the corridor, clattering on the floor.

I demanded. Her eyes flicked nervously around us. “Someone tried to breach the inner gate. Assassins.” My stomach dropped. “For me?” I asked. She didn’t answer. That was answer enough. Before I could move again, the air changed. Pressure slammed down on my chest, heavy and undeniable. Alpha. Ronan appeared at the end of the corridor, moving fast, eyes locked on me. His expression wasn’t anger. It was fear. “What are you doing out here?” he demanded, grabbing my arm.

“I am just checking things…is everything okay?” Ronan repeated it in his head, checking things out? This is not the area? What for? In the late evening, heavy rain and in the fog… for what? All of that is going through Ronan's head…but on the other hand he wanted to believe that the alpha only had good intentions. “All is well… Alpha Nero.” Ronan answered quickly. "What's that inside the tent...Ronan?" "My Luna." “Why would a Luna travel with you… a beta? Did you do anything forbidden?”

He wouldn't have trouble understanding the intricate relationships at play here. When Noah and Arthur raised their glasses, Atlas took me away, whispering softly, "Mr. Noah’s full name is Noah Kent. He's the newly appointed head of Bourdamun and is trying to establish himself. So, don't worry and wait for him to approach you. From there, the conversation will flow naturally." I looked at Atlas, a hint of concern in my eyes, and asked, "We won’t mess it up, right?” Atlas glanced at me sideways and asked, "You have that little faith in me?"

I hissed as the door flew open, nearly tearing off its hinges. It was Ronan. He didn't even look at the bed, slamming a hand over his eyes as he lunged forward and tossed a burner phone onto the rumpled sheets. "We found him," Ronan rasped. "We found Gustavo."

Ted instructed. “And what about the meeting with the Alpha?” Solomon asked. “We're waiting for his two teammates to arrive so I can arrange a meeting with Alpha Kevin,” Ted explained dryly. I followed Solomon through what he called a 'lab', which to me looked more like a torture chamber. Mixed-blood individuals lay unconscious, hooked up to various apparatuses with strange fluids coursing into their veins. The onyx stone sat at the heart of the lab, its golden light pulsating as it seemed to transfer energy to the patients.

After hesitating for a moment, Cordelia Locke presses the button next to it. The glass door opens, and a rush of warm air escapes. Cordelia Locke immediately steps inside, grateful for the heating in the space. Tired and hungry, she sits down on the floor. Gradually, she falls asleep. Ronan is furious. Instead of returning to the Imperial Garden, he goes to Zenith Ventures and locks himself in the CEO's office. The assistant is frustrated, but as long as the CEO is still there, they dare not leave. Until eleven in the evening, the assistant, concerned, knocks on the door and enters.

“We’re going to reach the fortress. We’re going to free the Primordials. And we’re going to bring the Council down.” “How do you know?” He smiled—a faint, weary, but genuine smile. “Because I’ve seen you fight. I’ve seen you bleed. I’ve seen you refuse to break. And I’ve never seen anyone who refuses to break lose.” I held his gaze, letting his words sink into my bones. Further ahead, Ronan let out a low whistle. He was standing in front of a massive stone door, its surface covered in the same runes as the entrance to the tunnel. “We’ve reached the end,” he called back.

The same man from the war room. "Do not scream," he said quietly. His voice was deep and rough. "I am not here to hurt you. I am here to talk about the king you are helping destroy." He removed his hand slowly. I scrambled backward until my back hit the headboard. "Who are you?" I whispered. His smile was cold and sharp and held no humor at all. "My name is Ronan," he said. "And Kael is my brother.”
