I was trying to pass the time till I will be going out to see Valerie. All of a sudden, my stepmother smiled at me. I wasn’t surprised I knew a quarter of the debt had been settled. “Wendy, you came out late after running to bed yesterday”,she said. Not even an apology for what she and her daughters said the previous day. “Yes”,I answered. I don’t want to waste my speech on them. My stepmother still had her fake smile on her face trying to tease me with her words. “Wendy, you will soon be a surrogate mother,”my stepmother teased me. She quite knows I hate to hear that sentence but she keeps reminding me. I didn’t reply to her. I kept chewing on my food and gulping water to ease my digestion.

“So I ask you again, honey.” He smiles, showing his perfectly white veneers. “Is there anything going on between you two?” I’ve never acted before, despite both of my parents wanting me to join the drama club all throughout school, but I somehow manage to force myself to scoff and grimace like the mere suggestion of Keith and me getting together is absolutely disgusting. “Ew, yuck! She held out a glass of juice, her smile so sugary it made my skin crawl. I grabbed the glass, my eyes locked on hers, and set it on the table with a hard clink. I’d rather drink piss than take anything from you. “Thanks,” I said, my voice flat, dripping with sarcasm. I leaned back, arms crossed. Stephanie stepped up, her smile just as fake. “You look prettier, daughter,” she said, her voice syrupy. “That’s what happens when you don’t let men like Christian stress you. You’re glowing.”

I say and he looks at me with eyes dark but not moving, he folds his arms and leans his weight on his hips. “Fuck, Winter, you shouldn't be doing something like this, what will your mom think?“ Kaden, my stepfather says and I shake my head, pressing my hands together to plead. The door opens and Uncle Justin walks in with a smirk, “relax brother, she's just exploring like young ladies her age” Justin says and I almost moan at the tension in the room. “She's my step daughter, and you're her fucking Uncle” Kaden says strictly and Uncle Justin climbs into the bed, staying behind me to present me to his brother…my stepdaddy.

I yelled. There was a long silence before a resounding laugh. “I do not care, Katie. Leave!” My eyes darted over every detail of him, and I swallowed the newly earned lump of saliva. But I do not move, and gradually, his head raises, his eyes meeting mine. “Don’t tell me you want a taste of me too? I guess I was right after all. Father’s money couldn't keep you, and now you want more. Tell me, Stepmom, how many men have you graced their bed just for cash?” I heard him say, causing me to scoff.

I scolded her. "Your reaction is funny. If only our other friends were here, they would tease you too. You are too affected by what I said, and you are in denial. We're the only ones here, Sie. Don't whine there because we're always having this desiring feeling about our stepsons," she said, laughing with one eyebrow raised.

"I am still your daddy's cadet, I am still going to fulfill my promise. I am going to bring your father's murderers to book, I am just waiting for the right time to strike. I want you to trust me okay," "I trust you hundred percent, you've helped me move on so fast. If not for you, I guess I might be battling with depression. Stephanie forced a fake smile and replied, "Fine." "Ugh, you're such a joy killer," Jessica teased as she slipped on her heels. "I know you're not happy about this wedding," she continued, causing Stephanie to sigh, realising her mother had no idea about her actions. "But you're still going to be my bridesmaid," she added, grinning broadly.

“Understand?” I put on my fake smile that I knew would annoy him, then I replied to him, “You have nothing to worry about, Dad. Stephanie and I will be on our best behavior in front of the camera and in public. Isn't that right, Stephanie?” I said as I turned to Stephanie, who also put on a fake smile right away. “That's right. We'll be the good daughter and son both you and my father would be proud of, Mr. Floros.” The sarcasm in Stephanie's voice could not be denied, and that just made me smile even more.
