I show him the picture of my mid-70's powder blue Beetle that I cherished, even if it was an ugly rust-bucket. I truly did love it, even when it caused me problems with not starting. And, if I'm being honest, the interior smelled like cheese. It was practically being held together by rust. It wasn't that great or reliable, but it was mine. It might have sputtered and lurched, and there was absolutely no way I could drive it out of town for fear of being stranded on the side of the road, but the memories within that metal contraption were worth driving a piece of crap around.
