She replied with her head down. The story book was in her hands and her eyes were staring at the book. Her tears fall down on the book.

I looked at Zuriel, and quickly wrapped my arms around him, placing my head over his chest. He smiled and caressed my hair. I glanced at the set of books. They're a collection of Indian ancient and historical love stories from history and mythology. Not only that, there was a set of coffee mugs of different colors. "How do you know that I love Indian history, especially love stories in them?" I asked him, pulling away. That's a secret, "he winked at me."

She sighed, feeling more relaxed from the moment the scent surrounded her. “Vanillin,” he said. “Excuse me?” “The aroma of old books. It’s actually lignin—related to vanillin. It’s why used bookstores have that fragrance they do. I read about it”—he motioned to a book on a shelf to his left—“in a book.” He grinned. She looked him over—maybe a little older than she’d original thought, slightly scruffy, T-shirt with something about obscenities on the chest. “What sort of books do you like?” he asked.

Katherine asked, cutting the silence in half. As a child, the only thing that would bring Katherine comfort was storytelling and as she grew up she became more intrigued by novels and the writings of experts. To Katherine, stories were a kind of safe place where her imagination could run as wild and as free as it pleases. Lucian leaned forward and Katherine began to adjust where she was seated until she was face to face with him. The fire that was still burning cast a shadow on half of his face but his red eyes continued to glow dark but vibrant.

“It helps... quiet my mind.” I nodded, understanding all too well. Especially since I had been reading a lot more than usual these days back home, my stepmother had not wanted me reading anything; she would have thrown me out of the house if not for appearance's sake, but books had been her way of showing control over me. “What do you like to read?” He hesitated, then held up the book he’d grabbed. “History. Legends, mostly. Stories about ancient packs and their wars.” A faint smile tugged at my lips.

I didn’t have much to do, or anything at all really, but talking about nothing isn’t really my style, at least not with my mom. Maybe I’ll go grab a bite. I wasn’t hungry, but staying home today wasn’t in my plans either. I’ll just go down to the Tasty Place Diner and hope some inspiration finds me. I grabbed my purse and headed out the door, turning back for my book on the kitchen counter; reading books will forever be my first love.
