I didn't care about the child.

Through the bridge, I felt his soul flicker. It was a tiny, grey spark in a vast, dark ocean. I grabbed it. I held onto it with everything I was. I poured my memories of Florence, the heat of the Maldives, and the weight of the crown into that spark.
