The Alpha king and the Hunt
When the doors opened, the Evil King sat on his obsidian throne like a dark promise.
He looked smaller in this light, but his eyes were worse — as though the torches burned truth into them. He smiled when he saw me, slow and pleased.
“Come forward,” he said.
Serena stood beside him. She wore a cloak of black fur that matched the cruel angle of her mouth. When she saw me, her expression was amused.
“You’re looking thin, Aria,” she cooed. “But it suits you. It makes you believable.”
He rose and approached, then plucked a silver chain from a table and snapped it between his fingers like breaking a twig. “Demonstrate, Luna,” he said. “Show me the gift your pack claims you hold.”
