The image of myself, weak and exposed in front of everyone, haunted me.

My eyes shot open, my heart hammering against my ribs as I sat up in bed. I looked through my window, everywhere was still dark, but the clock on my nightstand showed it was nearly seven. I’d barely gotten two hours of sleep, drifting off close to dawn after tossing and turning through a nightmare. In the dream, I’d been in the center of the pack, surrounded by sneering faces. Kael had stood off to the side, watching with that hard, indifferent look of his, as the pack taunted me, calling me weak, calling me unfit.
