I breathe, my voice echoing across the boughs and fluttering through the leaves, which hang limp on their stems. I kick at my feet, expecting the crunch of frost, instead finding the fluffy, airy touch of unnatural snow, and a strange, dark slate colour that is unearthed. "Guess,” he dares. “Snow in the Jade Province?” I try warily, unconvinced that this is actually snow.

It had a wide mouth with sharp fangs, and its body was covered with bony spikes. The beast opened its mouth at Chu Xun, revealing its crisscrossed fangs, and growled in a low voice. The roar sounded like thunder. Chu Xun smiled. He was sure that it was the Thunder Leopard. "Its ability to make growls like thunderclaps should be the reason why it is named the Thunder Leopard. I thought it could summon thunder." The Thunder Leopard stared at Chu Xun, the intruder, with its red eyes. Its body was glowing with dark red light.

The snake woman had a lot of guts to suggest something like that. The snake woman smirked. "I present to you-" She clapped once again and her assistants dramatically lifted the cloth. "The Snow Fox!" Everyone gasped. Lying in the steel cage was a baby fox. Its fur was as white as snow with thin red streaks all around. The tip of its tail was also red and it stared at everyone with its bright eyes, the colour of molten copper. The reason why it was called the Snow Fox was because their species lived high on snowy mountain tops and despite the cold, the creatures still survived. In fact, they didn't fare well with heat.

Up close she’s huge but not terrifying, her gray-white fur patterned with dark rosettes, pink nose twitching, ocean-blue eyes fixed on me. “Come on,” he urges. Skeptical, I kneel and reach out, eyes squeezed shut. Ben chuckles and presses his hand over mine, guiding it across her fur. I don’t know if it’s the softness of her coat or his hand over mine, but tingles race up my arm. “What is she? A jaguar?” I ask. “Leopard. Snow leopard,” he corrects. Oh. Way off. “Did you buy her? Doesn’t she need snow to survive?”
