As the announcer’s voice echoed through the venue, Claire lifted her chin with pride, smiling like the trophy was already in her hands. Then, the lights dimmed. When the stage lit up again, nine women stepped forward in perfect unison—each dressed in sleek, black, asymmetrical leopard-print skirts that shimmered under the spotlight. The moment Esther saw their faces, she understood exactly why Judy had dragged her here at the last minute. Leading the group was none other than Montisha, the Leggy Legend of Latin dance—famous for her hypnotic moves and long, sinuous legs. Men would drop a fortune just to catch a glimpse of her live.

Even if they came across me on the outside, their faces wouldn't betray a single hint of recognition. I loved this place, because it allowed me to unleash my true self. "My dearest patrons…" I threw the rose into the crowd, watching as they scrambled to catch it. "Thank you for watching my dance." I bowed gracefully, before hooking a finger under my bodice, slipping it off. "My name is Rose, and I will be having the pleasure of performing for you starting today." I scanned their faces, picking out tonight's target. This really was… An intoxicating night!

I squeezed his hand tightly, as if anchoring myself. “I’ve been thinking,” Jade said finally, breaking the silence. She stopped in her tracks and turned to face us, arms folded across her chest. “We don’t have a choice. Since the board insists that ‘Daisy’ must perform at the gala, then we have to get ahead of this fast. Very fast.” I nodded slowly, already knowing where this was going but feeling too numb to respond. “We’ll get you a ballet teacher. A professional. Someone discreet and highly experienced. You’ll begin classes immediately.”

“Care for a dance? I promise I’m light on my feet no toe-stepping guaranteed.” Tara glanced at me, her grin turning mischievous. “Duty calls, Nita,” she said, setting her wine glass on the table with a soft clink. “Save some gossip for later?” I nodded, managing a smile as she took his hand, her dress swirling like a midnight wave as they glided to the dance floor. The band played a slow jazz number, saxophones weaving through the air, and couples swayed under the chandeliers, Tara’s laugh floating back as she spun.

His maestro status on the other hand, was yet to be seen. "Settle down everyone," Madam Richardson - our senior instructor called the audience to order. She announced that the auditions were about to begin. Audition rules were listed out for us, even though everyone already knew them by heart- we still listened anyway. I've always found the combination of music and dance beautiful. Something magical even. But watching one candidate after the next move gracefully with the music across the floor, reminded me of everything I had lost. I nolonger just saw people I knew, but realized how far behind I was.

It was just a small, small distance away… just a little bit and I can finally get out! But then… “Wait.” He… He pulled my tail. “K-kyaaaa---!” What was that?! I felt like my soul was being pulled away from my body! I immediately flailed and was able to get away from his grip. The moment I felt the cold floor on my feet, I immediately dropped down and squeezed myself on the corner. I still feel weird… my tail feels weird!

LISA'S POV I was dancing to butter by BTS. When I heard some gasp behind me. "Wow! Lisa, where did you learn how to dance that way? Janet, one of my co-workers or should I say (co cleaners) , asked me, staring at me surprisingly. "Awwn, haven't you seen me dancing before? I am very good at it, that is one of my favorite things in the world. Do you want me to teach you? I asked her

I said, as I pulled my hands forcefully from Cade’s grasp and placed my hand in Kael’s, the cool strength of his fingers closing around mine like a promise. Kael pulled me toward him, his eyes burning with a dark, triumphant fire. He leaned in, his breath hot against my ear as the music began to play a slow, commanding waltz. "The first dance, Risa," he whispered, loud enough for a paralyzed Cade to hear. "And every dance after." As he led me toward the center of the floor, I looked back once. Cade was standing alone in the middle of the crowded room, a man who had sold a kingdom and realized too late that he had accidentally sold himself along with it.
