My head shifted as I looked up, my eyes meeting the man standing in front of us. He was tall and muscular with tattoos scattered on each arm; his jawline was sharp and his facial features were crisp. There was something about his demeanor that was just so cold and off-putting, but I couldn't exactly pinpoint anything. I continued to examine him before something in particular caught my attention. A tattoo was engraved on the lower center of his neck, the tattoo used to identify The Skulls. But that wasn't what threw me off, though. What threw me off was the word tatted right below it.

"Stay inside the iron fences until my enforcer arrives." "Do not make me wait," he snaps, cutting the link. I text Shawn the clearance code for the private lift. Within five minutes, the door slides open, and Shawn steps inside alongside an elder wolf wearing gold-rimmed lenses and carrying a leather medical kit. "This is the premier bone-shaper from the high council," Shawn whispers, pointing toward the bedroom. "He knows every skeletal structure in the Expanse." "Examine her face," I order, leaning against the glass wall. "Tell me whose skull is hiding under that flesh."

He meant the nail. I’d found it lodged behind the sink. It was just a rusted piece of metal, jagged and old, but sharp enough. I waited until they were passed out, then jabbed it into the side of my neck. I wanted the blood to spill fast. Wanted to feel it pour and let the warmth take me away. Anywhere but here. I just wanted to end it, I wanted peace. But Skull caught me. Dragged me to the sink, slammed my head against the porcelain, and shoved my face into the ice-cold water.

Chapter 23. KADEN. Skull's eyes were wide and I could easily detect the fear in them, just how I like it. “You bastard! I told you that, it was supposed to be just you and i!” He snapped and I chuckled. “And how good were you on keeping your own side of the deal?” I asked and Skull tssked. “I wouldn't release that cargo, cuz it entered my property, my port!” Skull yelled and I began wondering if he could hear himself, I'm starting to think that he doesn't.
