Masuk"You married me with a bastard in your belly, Lyra. Did you think I wouldn't scent the truth?" Alpha Kaelen Blackthorne is a predator who rules the Ironvale Frost-Fangs with icy ruthlessness, faking a crippling injury to avoid a blood-oath marriage he never wanted. But when Lyra Nightbane—the "stray" from the Duskwild Expanse—steps into his den, his primal instincts ignite. She’s gorgeous, defiant, and carrying a secret that should make him kill her. Instead, it makes him want to claim every inch of her skin. Lyra only needs thirty days to reclaim her family’s legacy, but she didn’t count on the heat between them turning into an inferno. Between the high-stakes world of pro hockey and the moonlit dangers of pack politics, their "fake" union turns into a raw, 18+ battle of dominance and desire. He’s the Alpha who hates her; she’s the mother of a secret heir. When the clothes come off, the hunt truly begins. The heat of his massive frame pressed me into the furs, his breath ghosting over my ear like a summer storm. I couldn't move. I couldn't breathe.
“Your heart is hammering against your ribs, Lyra,” he murmured, his voice a low, primal vibration that made my skin prickle. “You can still walk out of this lodge. I won't stop you.”
I curled my fingers into the sheets, my knuckles turning white. “No. I’m staying. I want this.”
“Good.”
He leaned down, his teeth grazing the sensitive cord of my neck where a mark should have been. The night became a blur of silver moonlight and raw, overwhelming sensation.
“Is the gold in the bag?”
Vespera Crowe didn't even look up from the shadows of the Crimson Fang Lodge lobby. She kicked a heavy black satchel toward my feet as I stumbled out of the elevator, my legs shaking and my scent heavy with another man's musk.
“Every coin is there, Lyra,” she rasped. “You did your part.”
“I’m leaving,” I snapped, snatching the bag.
“Wait, the Alpha's son"
“I don't care about the Alpha’s son! My family is dying!”
I sprinted toward the Moonshadow Infirmary, ignoring the ache in my body. I reached the Silverclaw Wing just as the sun began to bleed over the horizon of the Duskwild Expanse. Two stretchers sat abandoned in the hall.
“Stop!” I screamed, catching Dr. Alistair Viremont by the sleeve. “I have it. I have the payment for the blood-healing! Save my mother and Orion!”
Viremont gestured to a nurse. “Count it. Quickly.”
I watched them wheel my mother, Selene, toward the glowing runes of the operating theater. But they didn't touch the other stretcher.
“What are you doing?” I lunged for the doctor’s arm. “My brother! Why isn't Orion being moved?”
Viremont looked at me with hollow eyes. “His wolf has already crossed the veil, Lyra. It’s too late. His spark is gone.”
The world shattered. My knees hit the stone floor, and a howl I didn't know I possessed tore from my throat before the darkness claimed me.
“You shouldn't be here, Darius.”
I stood outside my mother’s recovery ward, the scent of my father the man who had exiled us to this frozen wasteland eight years ago clogging my senses.
“Selene, listen to reason,” Darius Nightbane’s voice rumbled from behind the door. “You and Evelyne Blackthorne were pack-sisters. You swore a blood-oath that our bloodlines would merge. It’s a sacred debt.”
“A debt?” My mother’s voice was weak, cracked with grief. “You threw us to the scavengers, Darius! You left me pregnant and alone in the Expanse! And now you want Lyra to pay your debts?”
“Kaelen Blackthorne is the heir to the Blackthorne Pack! It is a position of power!”
“He’s a broken wolf!” my mother hissed, a tray crashing to the floor. “The silver-poisoning from the rogue attack left him paralyzed. He can’t even shift! You want to tether my daughter to a man who is a ghost in his own skin?”
I pushed the door open, my eyes locked on the man who had abandoned us. “I’ll do it.”
Darius spun around, his eyes widening as he took in my haggard appearance my thin frame and the scars of a decade of survival. “Lyra?”
“I will marry Kaelen Blackthorne,” I said, my voice cold as the frost on the windows. “But I have one condition.”
Darius recovered his smug composure. “Speak then.”
“We return to Ironvale City. You return every acre of the Nightbane territory that belonged to my mother’s dowry. You give us our status back, or you can find someone else to marry the fallen Alpha.”
Darius hesitated, his greed warring with his desperation. “That’s a lot of coin and land, Lyra.”
“Then let your precious younger daughter, Liora, do it,” I challenged, stepping closer. “Let her spend her life feeding a paralyzed man who can never hunt with her. Or give me what is mine.”
“Fine,” Darius growled, unable to meet my gaze. “Agree to the blood-bond, and you can come home.”
“Good,” I whispered, looking at my mother’s tear-filled eyes. “Pack your things, Mom. We’re going back to the pack.”
My face immediately falls into a freezing shadow. My spirit is completely unwilling to continue with this dangerous topic, because my mind still thinks Samuel and Simona have zero connection to Kaelen’s bloodline. "Are there still pack guests lingering downstairs on the rugs?" I deliberately twist the conversation to a new track."Mrs. William has already seen most of the high alphas off to their trucks," Theresa says, following my steps. "My own paws walked the rest of the crowd out to the gravel for your shop. I don't think there are any guests left on the floor now. The cleaners are sweeping the red juice off the wood, and Mrs. William is waiting by the racks for your hug."Theresa can easily tell from my cold scent that my mind hated the baby topic, so her tongue follows my question instead of pushing the baby talk further."I see," I say in a light, quiet tone. When our boots arrive downstairs, almost every single wolf is gone and the display hall looks completely empty. There is
Lyra Nightbane POV"My wrist holds zero metal because our moon wedding never happened," I tell the empty corners of the upper floor. "No pack elder blessed our furs, there was zero ceremony under the stars, and my body never even stood inside the Ironvale City registry hall alongside my so-called alpha husband.""Excuse my boots, Lyra," Theresa says, her soft paws stepping across the high rugs as she hands me the glowing black device. "Your cell phone has been ringing like crazy."Since my dress was busy presenting the new ice gear on the wooden stage downstairs, Theresa kept the plastic device inside her own apron.I take the plastic from her fingers. Theresa tilts her head to add, "It looks like a fresh message track just hit your screen a minute ago."My thumb swipes the glass line to unlock the display. The second my eyes hit the white message box to read the text, every single drop of red blood drains straight out of my cheeks. My inner chest thumps so violently it hurts my ribs,
The hot flames in Kaelen’s eyes look ready to spray straight out of his skull, burning my pink dress into black ash. How could my tongue take Elowen's side? In an arctic, freezing tone, he growls, "Give the green stone straight back to her truck. My claws will buy whatever jewelry your heart desires.""Okay," I agree immediately, my voice softening. My mind had already planned to return the valuable stone anyway because it was way too heavy for our small connection. I just didn't want to break her old spirit inside the lounge earlier. My quiet attitude makes his alpha anger melt away. "From this sun forward, your boots will never meet her form again.""Okay," I promise bluntly. I do not think Elowen Frost is an evil female wolf, and my mind actually thinks she is quite good. But because of Kaelen’s deep pack pain, my soul has zero intention to get close to her lodge. At least, my truck will never take the initiative to seek her out.Kaelen’s chest completely calms down. He reaches his
Lyra Nightbane POV"My mind cannot find the logic behind your past choices, Kaelen," I say, my throat tightening as the old alpha Darius Nightbane stands near the display boards. My memory flashes back to a freezing winter night at Moonshadow Infirmary, where a pregnant female wolf had stood on the roof edge ready to jump into the dark canyon. My own paws had tried to pull her back, and my tongue told her she could take every single resource in my pack bag just to save her life. So inside Kaelen’s big alpha brain, his thoughts assumed my heart had begged him to save Darius Nightbane’s dying hockey company from total ruin six winters ago.In truth, my soul just couldn't watch a pregnant mother end her breath, because my own belly was carrying the twin cubs at that exact moment. My paws just wanted to protect that innocent pup from the dark. Later, Kaelen's truck had driven over to give the female wolf a mountain of resources to settle her debt. Right after that ice storm, his beast dem
Lyra Nightbane POV“When will your inner wolf finally accept my line, Lyra?” Kaelen whispers, his large lips moving down until they are practically brushing against my ears. His thick, hot breath hits my neck and sends a giant rush of electricity straight through my skin, making my knees go totally
“Yes,” Orion snaps back with total confidence. “My mommy grew me in her own skin. She loves my fur more than anything.”Kaelen just smiles at the boy’s simple logic. He drops down on his knees so his eyes are level with the pup’s face. “Little wolf, you can never give her the kind of protection and
Dr. Alistair Viremont POV“Children are tiny, and every pack member’s chest naturally feels softer for them,” I mutter, my thumb rubbing the dark glass screen of my pack phone. The corners of Kaelen Blackthorne’s lips twist up into a tiny, mocking smirk as he stands near the pack trucks. He knows e
“Kaelen…” she whispers.Kaelen doesn't even give her a glance. He steps into my space, his large arm coming around my waist to steady me because my knees are about to give out.I lean against his chest, staring through the carriage glass at Alistair. “Give Orion to me, Alistair. I am begging you. Y
