Martins reached forward and, insolently, groped her waist from behind, a grab masked as familiarity, a man's hand claiming space that was not his to take.
Celine didn't think. She reacted.
Her palm met his cheek with a hard, decisive sound. Martins staggered, blinking in disbelief.
Then, with a motion so fast it was almost animal, Celine snatched a kettle from the stove — the kettle that was still steaming and held it up with both hands.
The silver body gleamed with danger. The steam hissed between them like the breath of a warning.
“Touch me again,” she said, her voice cold and steady, “and I will pour this on you. Do you understand me?” Her eyes were iron.
