He watched the rhythm: drop, return, the fraction of breath before ready. Sun glyphs ghosted in the torchwash; opposite, the labrys glowered.
“Right behind you,” Terry said, clapping his shoulder.
“Be careful,” Jessica called.
“She slots me in and then says be careful,” he muttered. A loose pebble under his boot—a flick—click.
Spikes punched up in a nasty bouquet.
“No comment,” Terry said, hopping back.
“Not the way,” Sean agreed.
