I walked forward anyway. Each step measured. Controlled. Boots soft on the flagstones, hood pulled low but not hiding. The bond stretched behind me—not painfully this time, but aware. Connected. Like a golden tether that didn’t restrain, only reminded. A gentle tug, warm and patient: *I’m here. Ten minutes. Then I follow. Aligned.*

He leaned forward with both elbows on his knees and looked at the floor for a moment. "It is called a tether," he said. "An old Lycan practice." He paused. "It is not placed on top of a person the way normal compulsion works. It is woven inside them, deep enough that the person carrying it has no awareness of it at all. Step by step, I moved deeper in. The tunnel narrowed, then suddenly opened up into a massive chamber. I paused at the threshold, blinking at the unexpected sight. The space was wide, almost circular, with a strange, humming silence that pressed against my ears. In the center stood something that didn’t fit. A book pedestal. Stone. Ancient-looking. I moved toward it, drawn to the object resting atop it like it belonged to someone very, very dangerous. The book was bound in black leather, worn and cracked. A single horn—no, two—were carved on the front, protruding slightly like twisted bone. It didn’t have a title. No markings except those horns.

I needed something to soften the dryness, the pain, something that would drown the growing fear. Aside from the darkness, something held me bound in place. They sounded heavy and metallic and felt strong. My wrists were hurting, like something weighty had been placed on them for ages. With the noises it made and how brutal it felt on my wrist, I knew that I was chained up. Like an animal. A wild, dangerous animal that was supposed to go extinct. Through the small light that peeked through a hole in the walls, I could see that I wasn’t alone in that room.

Her aunt gives her a small smile and nods, Celine finds the bookmark and opens to the page. The woven bookmark has a faded blue tassel and was made of woven threads depicting wolves running in a forest, at the bottom of the bookmark was an old wolf’s tooth with a hole drilled through to be able to tie it onto the bookmark. She puts it to one side to look at the page it had been marking. It looked much like many of the others she had seen flipping through. But its words had her feeling like her world was slipping through her fingers and she was unable to do anything to stop it.
