In the center sat the thick red mat, perfectly placed, as though meant for someone to kneel before the painting.
Eliana’s eyes flickered to the bottom corner of the portrait. There, written in fine gold letters, was a name. Emily Blackwood.
Below it, a range of years. She stared at the numbers for a moment, confused, then it clicked, slowly, and painfully.
Her mouth went dry. “No…” she whispered, taking a step back.
