Unlike the others, this page was completely filled with elegant handwriting. At the top was a single title. Chapter One His heartbeat quickened. "This can't be..." He read the first sentence. "On a cold autumn evening, a young man named Adrian Vale opened a letter that would change history forever." Adrian's hands trembled. It was the opening of his own story. Word for word. Every sentence exactly as he had lived it. He turned the page. Chapter Two. Then Three. Then Four. Every journey. Every betrayal. Every sacrifice. Even conversations that had happened only moments ago were already written.

It was an opportunity Athena couldn't ignore. One moonless night, shrouded in darkness, Athena crept towards the apothecary. Her agile form moved silently, every step calculated to avoid the guards' patrols. With nimble fingers, she picked the lock to the storehouse, slipping inside like a ghost. Rows of vials and jars lined the shelves, their contents illuminated by the faint glow of a single lantern.

I rolled my eyes at him, surprised with how high his arrogance was. How fragile his pride turned out to be. "No one ever said you made the purchase. Unless if you mean to tell me you suddenly live on your own here."

“I was starting to think the little slave girl had spit in your soup again and you’d decided to starve yourself to death.” Gary groaned. “Don’t start, Lucas.” Leaning forward on the worn table, Lucas pressed on with an expression of exaggerated sympathy. “We should begin keeping a journal for you, my dear friend. We could call it The Very Sad Diary of Alpha Alec. Chapter One: Day four of slowly losing my mind over the enemy girl with the pretty eyes.” I didn’t answer. Instead, I reached for the drink and swallowed half of it in a single drag. The burn of the brandy scorched its way down my throat—a sharp, welcome fire that silenced the noise in my head.

My steps are slow and reverent as I enter, drinking in every detail. A broad wooden table dominates the center, its surface clear except for a leather mat and a marble mortar set to the side. All around it, elegant black shelves stretch from floor to ceiling, each one filled to bursting with neat rows of labeled jars, vials, and apothecary bottles. Dried herbs hang in fragrant bundles from exposed beams. Shimmering apparatuses... still, flasks, retorts, alembics... are arranged meticulously beside tiny glass droppers and rows of tincture bottles.
