The smell of cured leather hits me first, it’s an old smell, almost eradicated, but still there. He drops the book in the space between us and my hand reaches for it immediately. My heart cracks when I see what’s on the first page and tears sting the back of my eyes. “You were searching for that book weren’t you?” I nod because I was. Clearly written on the first page are the words “Records of His Majesty, King Ashryn the Great, Supreme Lycan King of the Four Kingdoms, and His wife, Diane.” Okay, I'm a bit offended at how the latter part sounds like something added as an afterthought in my head, but this is it.

The candles flickered in rhythm. She whispered, “Lunaris was betrayed by her wolf king… and now her curse lives through me.” A wind stirred through the chamber. Papers rustled. A single book fell from the shelf , an old volume bound in black hide. It landed open at her feet. She knelt slowly and read the first line aloud. “The Queen of Chains shall awaken the King of Ruin.” Her blood went cold. Then , so faint she almost thought it was imagination , she heard it again.

"Silence!" The stranger choked on a force pressing against his throat. He struggled with removing a scroll from his pockets, pushing out, "This is...one of the many. King of ashes, you shall...become. When your great empire falls...around your ears... remember the faces of my kin." The pressure grew worse. "Re...mem...ber." With an echoing crack, the traveller fell to the marbled floor, blood slowly pooling around him. The scroll unravelled from his limp hold. King Arhuk felt their gazes. The tension swelling in the silent hall, the bated breaths and the glaring questions. Are we really destined for doom?

After I'm done relaying all the events, he speaks. "I see," he sits up. "The question to your answer, Haven, is no." "W-what? What do you mean 'no?'" "Your father, Ash, is not dead. He is still alive." "B-but..how can that be?" I say in a small shocked whisper. "Lycan King Ash was ambushed and betrayed by his friends exactly as it is in your vision and.." He opens his drawer and pulls out a book, it's yellowish-gold cover colour looking a bit weared off. "In this book."

The Flame Crown on his head flickers between gold and black. Ceres (breathless): "He's corrupted the Flame. That crown—it's rejecting him... and yet obeying." Xavier (voice tight): "Or it's evolving with him. Feeding on the worst of what he is." Vision Voice (echoing): "The King of Ash breathes not fire... but death." The image shifts. Ceres lies on a stone altar in labor, the sky above a crimson eclipse. Shadows dance along the walls. Her screams echo as hands reach out from the dark—not to help, but to take.

"You will live. And you will fight. That is your penance. Not death. Life. Service. Loyalty. You will earn your place among us, or you will die trying. But not here. Not like this." Soren's hands trembled. The blade clattered on the stone floor, the sound echoing through the silent chamber. "Thank you," he whispered. His voice broke. The king's name burned on my tongue. Ashur. And somewhere in the darkness, he heard me. The ground shook. The walls of the fortress trembled. The gold light flickered and dimmed, as if the ancient magic was failing. The sky beyond the entrance went black, as if the sun had been swallowed whole. A voice, ancient and terrible, spoke from the shadow—not in my mind,

The King clearly pointed out all perverted men and the Duke felt his heart clench. He knew he stood nowhere in the bargaining. The King made sense. “You will be allowed to pay a visit now and then. Plus, if she miraculously makes it past the curse then she would be the next queen. So choose wisely.” The King condescendingly walked to them and smirked seeing the duke giving it a thought. It was tough but it was for the best. He hates to know that his daughter is being used as bait against the Prince’s curse but it was better than not knowing how she was doing after his demise.

I blinked and swallowed slowly knowing instantly that he was my father and the king. I bowed my head to him and he smiled back at me. Ashr grabbed my arm and pulled me through the room and into another empty room.
