Her mother sighed. “Oh great. Party neighbors.” Ruby wasn’t listening. Her eyes had caught something—someone. A boy stepped out onto the balcony next door, the one directly connected by only a narrow wall to the balcony of their new apartment. The dying sunlight caught him perfectly: messy black hair, silver chain glinting, a confident, careless way he leaned over the railing. He laughed at something someone said behind him, but his eyes slid up for a split second—meeting Ruby’s.

I was about to retreat inside when a chorus of moans and breathless whispers drifted over from my only neighbors-a young couple, Junior and Andeng, who lived alone in the cottage next door. Jealousy had devoured their reason. Soon, the hallway outside his apartment filled wall to wall with people. Some held umbrellas over their heads, afraid he might dump cold water on them again.

He was as happy as he could be with that once I promised him. Last month, our next door neighbors moved out. They had been renting the house for the past 2 years. They were finally in a position to buy their own house. We were so happy for them that we threw them a party. We all had a great time, and we even got to meet some of the other neighbors in our neighborhood. The next week they moved out. I figured they would be busy, so I hadn't been bothering them much. Last week a moving van pulled up into the driveway of their house. I watched as they moved all their furniture into the house. I started wondering if they were gay.

I went to the living room and that was when i realized the music wasn't coming from my house but from the house next door. What the actual hell? I opened my door and could even hear the music more clearly, not even music, it was noise. I was actually bare footed but I didn't care because all I wanted was a good nap and nothing was going to get in the way of that. I walked over to the next flat and knocked on the door, there was no response and i used my two hands to bang on the door again.

They drove all night to the little cottage; they had breakfast under the trees in their bathrobes, listened to music, and relaxed in the evenings after giving in to their desires. It wasn't hard for Daniel to fall in love with his wife all over again every day, or for Deanna to melt at his thoughtful gestures and attention. Despite the routine of married life, the house, and the children, he planned to court her forever. The season premiere was approaching, and once again the theater began to take on a life of its own. “You don't understand, I don't have time!” Leonard shouted into the phone, hiding behind one of the curtains, as if no one could hear him.

However, his expression was icy and unsmiling, and for a second she wished he'd just snap her neck out of anger rather than the perilous calmness and composure he exuded. “Um, I'm Cee, your next-door neighbor.” She introduced herself, flashing a bigger grin than necessary. But the hardness in his gaze only switched to a poker expression that made her skin crawl in dread. Due to the extreme focus she had on his face, she didn't realize when her back slammed against the brick walls of his apartment that the force made her wince. Meanwhile, his height dwarfed her presence as they now stood inches from each other, and she found herself holding her breath.
