For a long moment, she just stood there, the document crumpled in her hand, the truth sinking in like a weight pressing on her chest.
Finally, she found her voice. “You think this is over?” she hissed, her eyes flashing with fury. “You think you’ve won?”
Sarah didn’t respond. She just continued to rub her stomach, a satisfied look in her eyes. “It’s over, Suzanne. Charles will marry me, and you’ll be nothing more than a memory.”
Suzanne dropped the envelope back onto the table, her hand shaking. She turned and walked away, the sounds of Sarah’s laughter echoing in her ears. But as she reached the door, she stopped. Her back stiffened, and she took a deep breath.
