In the original book, the Prince won the battle but stepped down from his right to the throne for the love of the woman he was with. In the book I’d gotten from the library, he was killed, and she was held captive at the end, though it had tried to be represented as love. Well, that sent a clear message to me. Whoever did this wanted me dead and Jillie to be with them. I scoffed. Like that was going to happen.

She was practically jobless and how she survived in this city was amusing. Nobody could judge her social skills even if they tried. She was a bonafide social climber and she did it so well, rumors had it though that she had shackled herself to the wrong billionaire. Adrian Hales was a ‘soon to be’ bankrupt person and it was going to be a beautiful reality for Cassie. Good thing society will still be there and the rude world will still rotate, she frowned at the thought and it was about the same time that they stepped into Dan’s office.

Later, she manipulated him into waging a war with the male lead's kingdom.

I nodded and continued. "Yes. I was just as surprised to see her again. But her story told me everything I needed to know. She hated her marriage, but she ended up a wealthy heiress. I know I won’t get that lucky, but at least I’ll have everything I need. And for as long as I can, I’ll hold onto it. It’s far more reliable than the promise of satisfaction that I can’t count on," I finished, running my hands through my hair. We stood in silence for a moment before he pulled something from his pocket, staring at it intently.
