With a slight inhalation, she signalled a hand motion at the forensic pathologist. “Run a full autopsy,” she ordered. “I want results first thing in the morning.” “Yes, ma’am,” the forensic examiner replied, already signaling her team. Straightening, Breanna turned sharply to the Lieutenant of the main Station. “I need a week's list of all inmates booked at the main station”. The lieutenant stiffened, his fingers tightening around his belt. “I can’t release that information. It's classified.” Breanna pulled off her dark shades and gave him a condescending look.

But before that, I needed to start formulating a plan on how to begin. I spent the rest of the day reading in my room. I had picked up a book written by one of my favorite authors in the thriller genre, Freida McFadden, titled "The Inmate." I had read enough of her books to know that this one would be another hit. I was halfway through the book when I heard a door open. Not even a minute later, mine opened, and I saw Kiara at the door. She looked panicked, and I immediately dropped the book on the bed, got up, and walked up to her.

The walls were an unforgiving shade of gray, and the dim, flickering fluorescent lights cast eerie shadows that seemed to dance with the whispers of despair. I just take my food from him and go back deeper into my cell to eat it. I expect to see Mason walking toward my door; instead, I see women. They’re three of them. The one in front opens my cell door, and they all walk inside. The two behind grab my hands and make me kneel. They spread my hands wide as the one who opened my cell walks toward me with a needle in her hand. I can't see clearly, but I’m sure it's silver inside the syringe. I struggle to free my hands from the two women holding me, but I’m unable to. The leader finds a vein in my left hand and wastes no time injecting me.

And whatever it is about. Not long after, Jane took a deep breath. The restlessness in her heart right now really couldn't be held back any longer. Immediately, Jane got up from the bed, and took out a book and a ballpoint pen that she had asked one of the cell guards this afternoon. Carrying the book and the pen in the palm of her right hand, then walked back to the bed, and sat on there. Jane leaned against the rough walls of the prison cell and the cold felt down her back at this very moment.

Papers are everywhere and trash cans are full of empty soda bottles, instant noodle bowls, and take out containers. I was now inmate No 5523. Another guard walked towards me and she held my hands. "Follow me." she said. We walked down a long corridor and we stopped in front of Cell 114. She put a key into the lock and the door opened automatically. "This is your home for now." She said and gestured for me to enter inside. I stepped inside, and the door was slammed shut in my face. Taking a look around at the cell, I guess it could have been worse. At least it was clean. There was a very small cot in the room and a small sink. On the cot, was a small bible. I took the dusty bible and blew on it. When I opened it, it landed on the boo of Thessalonians.

"I got everything you asked for." I straightened in my chair. "That fast?" "You sounded paranoid over the phone," she replied as she dropped the folder onto my desk. "Which usually means I should hurry." I ignored the sarcasm and opened the folder immediately. The pages of inmate records filled the file. Names, charges, and sentencing dates. Transfer requests and visitation logs. Hartfield Correctional had more high-profile inmates than I expected. Kate sat across from me and crossed her legs. "I had to call in a favor for some of those records."
