I usually set my alarm for 7 am, then head out to help prepare Gavin's family breakfast. I opened my eyes wide as I realized that my bottom was in a lot of pain. I bit my lower lip, and my memory reflexively rewound. Last night wasn't a dream. Gavin's warm caress was still there. He really came for me and filled my night with warmth. It was not like before that I thought that what Gavin had done last night was a dream. But what if it was just a dream? I turned my head slowly to confirm who was sleeping beside me. For a moment, I rounded my eyes to stare at the man who was still asleep under the blanket with a shady face. I shook my head, unable to believe what the man was doing.

And yet, there he stood, naked, hands out on the trees, resting on their bark, listening. His eyes closed, he could feel his own heartbeat, the texture of the tree bark like a wooden snake . . . and smell Tancorix nearby. Somehow, disobeying his orders, disregarding his men and doing acts usually saved for matrimony seemed correct at the moment. “What do you know of me?” Tancorix had asked him earlier when they receded back into the darkness of the woods.

“You’re to prepare for tonight.” I blinked as I came to a stop in front of him. “Tonight?” He nodded once. “Don't act dumb. You know how it is done. Go to the washroom before midnight and make sure you're clean and ready; I'll meet you there.” The air seemed to thin around me. My hands went cold. “I understand,” I said softly. He gave a short nod and left without another word. I stood there for a long moment, my pulse climbing. I knew what “prepare” meant.

A single message flashed on the screen: "I know what you did with Ryder… and I’m coming for you." My heart slammed against my ribs, and I glanced at Ryder, still sleeping peacefully, unaware that this perfect night might have just turned into a nightmare.

I said. But neither of us moved. “Riven,” I said after a while. “Yes?” “Whatever you have to tell me tomorrow…” I paused. “I need you to know that tonight happened before I knew. I need that to be clear.” His hand stilled on my back for just a moment, then resumed its gentle rhythm. “I know,” he said quietly. “Okay,” I whispered. I closed my eyes. His heartbeat was steady beneath my ear, his warmth wrapped around me, and for the first time in weeks, I fell asleep quickly and deeply.

“And you never asked me for help?” The hurt in his voice surprised me. He walked past me and closed the door behind me with a soft but firm click. The sound echoed through the hall. For a moment… neither of us spoke. The air felt thick with unsaid words. My phone buzzed. I pulled it out absentmindedly. And froze. The message was from Liam. Tomorrow. We’re going for that DNA test. No excuses this time. My breath caught. I felt the ground shift beneath my feet. I never expected my life to be a nightmare after I had sex with him that very night.

She came back the following morning, but no one knew where she went, only Mr Trahan. Now she was back and is brooding trouble.

“What are you talking about?” He smiled again. “I changed rooms that night.” I stared at him. “You changed rooms?” He nodded. “Before you came in.” I looked at him in shock. “Why?” Ryan gave me that same smile I had seen the first time we met. “I saw you at the rehearsal.” I could barely speak. “You knew who I was?” “Not exactly.” He laughed softly. “I only knew you were the beautiful woman I wanted to talk to.” I shook my head. “So you changed rooms?”

He teased, kissing my neck, and I knew he was referring to my statement earlier at the bar. “I can't judge with one performance, right?” I teased, as our eyes locked, as the tension grew again, and that was how I spent my night getting ruined by him, over and over again. I woke up the next day sore, tired, and barely breathing, but I was even more shocked by the unfamiliar room I found myself in. The memories of what had happened the night before flooded back, and I finally realized what I had done. Panic crept in, sharp and suffocating, and I hurried to leave. I couldn’t let Romano find out that I hadn’t slept at home.
