She steadied herself, smiled like she’d expected that, like she knew more than I did. “She’s the one,” she said, voice sharp and certain. “The Blessed One. He handed her an old book, its cover cracked and heavy with age. I could almost smell the dust and time clinging to it.

I called again, moving toward the door but I got no answer. This guy is not only a nerd, he is also weird and somehow crazy. I wonder how I was going to cope with him when I joined his book club. I grabbed my phone off the table and unlocked it. As the screen popped on, messages flooded in. I poured myself a full glass and downed it in one go. The burn of alcohol seared down my throat, and for a moment, my mind wavered. "Whoa, look at you. Such a rebel." Rebel? What did that even mean?
