“Your dad really left you in the dark, didn’t he?” I didn’t reply, and that silence was answer enough. Vivian’s voice took on a reverent tone, like she was speaking of ancient myths made real. “Phoenix wolves are among the rarest and most powerful beings in our world. She really couldn’t help going back to the task of convincing her; it wasn’t an easy stuff.

Slow entrance music began playing as we took steps towards where the devil himself stood. Heads turned and gasps followed suit.

I wiggle on the stool a little, my tender areas throbbing in both discomfort and arousal. Phoenix takes a deep breath through his nose, looks down at where my thighs meet, and runs his fingers through his hair, pulling at it and scrubbing at his scalp. In an instant, all the guys disappear. It is like a cartoon, Ryders plate still rattles on the counter after he grabs his bacon and flees. “What’s that all about?” I look up at Phoenix, who is taking deep breaths and flexing his hands, which keep balling into fists. His eyes are dark, his body stiff, and the air around him is suffocating.

Her scent grows stronger, so does the pain. How did she get this deep?. She is a human girl with a frail body that bruises from a careless shove. She should not have been able to walk this far without the first claiming her. A loud crash echoes ahead. Something is fighting, I sprint faster. Jaxon appears through the shadows as a blur of dark fur and flashing teeth. He is fighting something I cannot fully see. The shadows tear like cloth around him.
