Autumn barely heard them. Her world had narrowed to the man in her arms. To the terrifying, endless quiet where his presence should have been. Beneath the ruins, the earth groaned.

Don’t cry honey, please, it’s ok. No one is getting hurt, I promise.” Levi scans the room while all this is happening, looking for signs of danger, and signaling me to hang back. I obey, mostly as I don’t want to argue with him when he’s this intense. And it is sweet that he is so determined to protect me. But I don’t see any threat.

More than capable. But the thing I really knew about Levi was how persistent he was. How obsessive. I'd been watching him for years. Watched how everything he did somehow circled back to Ava. Every decision. Every plan. It all came back to her. "He'd do anything to protect his mate," I said. Let that sit for a second. "And that can be at the detriment of his own life." He’s now at Advanced-Earth rank.” Sky said, “This is all thanks to Brother Rockefeller’s elixir that I could break through the shackles! I stepped forward before I could stop myself, anger rising fast, hot, overwhelming everything else. “We’ve been safe here. For years. Do you understand that? Years! And the second you show up, this happens!” I gestured back sharply, not even wanting to look at it again. Levi turned to face me slowly, his expression hard, his breathing still uneven from the fight. “And this is exactly why I have to protect my son now.” A laugh came out sharp, bitter and completely without humor. “Protect him?” I snapped. “Is this what you call protection? Bringing this straight to him?”
